Beats, Rhymes and Hot Sauce. That's Life!
Phat Relations Bio
What I do now all goes back to the 1980's where gymnastics led to breakdancing and the music that went with it. It was all about the breaks; the best hook, bar, note or bit in the song that people would loop or create other songs from. DJ'ing led to crate-digging, looking for the original songs that others had sampled and figuring out how they had done it. Of course vinyl wasn't cheap so I joined forces with Bernard Achampong to set up Trill B Productions (TBP) around 1988, (later realising it was also a popular bird-seed brand name), and that is pretty much is where it all began.
During the past 25 years I've done parties for Christmas, New Year, weddings, birthdays and anything that paid cash to fund what I loved doing. TBP combined forces in the 1990's to create Hypemasters and the infamous Booticall events at the University of Hertfordshire after which I set up Phat Relations.
Oh, and I make a mean hot sauce too!
August 1988 - Black Hat Nite
Our first ever live gig was on a rainy August evening in 1988. We mainly ended up playing records to ourselves and learnt a harsh lesson in not taking things too personally!
August 2008 - Anniversary
In celebration and memory of 1988 we threw a series of free parties in Shoreditch in 2008 to celebrate 20yrs behind the decks.
The Future & Beyond
Phat Relations is still going so look out for news of future parties, music and related-happenings.
Mango Mouth Melter
Mango Mouth Melter is a different part of the Phat Relations suite. A badass mango and scotch bonnet sauce handmade in Hackney when the mood takes me.
